The benefits of exercise are well known and varied, however during the antenatal and postnatal period it is especially important to exercise in the correct manner. At LifeCare Point Walter Physiotherapy centres, specialised exercise classes are offered for pregnant women and new mothers.
As Pilates Physiotherapy is based around optimal posture as well as pelvic floor and deep abdominal muscle activation, it is an ideal way to exercise to recover after pregnancy.
Our studio Pilates sessions are suitable for postnatal women following the six week postnatal medical check. We recommend a one-on-one assessment with one of our Pilates Physiotherapists using the Real Time Ultrasound to ensure correct muscle activation. The assessment will also include a check for a diastasis of the rectus abdominal muscles.
Following this an individual Pilates program will be set up and continually monitored and progressed as appropriate.
